Plant a tree on Baikal lake
UITH ECO environmental program

Lake Baikal is the deepest and oldest freshwater lake on the planet, located in Eastern Siberia, containing approximately 20% of the world's freshwater reserves. Its unique, clear, oxygen-rich water supports numerous endemic plant and animal species, such as the Baikal seal, omul, and golomyanka. The lake is striking in its crystal clear waters and breathtaking landscapes. However, the nature reserve requires protection from pollution, fires, deforestation, and pests.
UITH ECO environmental program
Why plant trees?
Reforestation is a powerful tool in the fight against deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Planting native tree species ensures a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem that benefits wildlife, healthy soil, and local habitats. Trees provide food and shelter for birds, pollinators, and mammals.
Forests act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing CO₂ and stabilizing temperatures. Wildfires, pests, and deforestation deplete soil nutrients and disrupt the water cycle.
Angara pine (Pinus silvestris) is a species with high carbon sequestration that helps combat climate change and restore degraded lands, enriching degraded soils, preventing erosion, and improving groundwater retention.

What are we doing?
We plant
trees
Out of concern for the natural environment of our native lands, we regularly organize tree planting events.
We clean up
trash
We are conducting campaigns to clean up the bottom of Lake Baikal and its coastal
area of trash.
We preserve Cossack culture
Cossacks are an integral part of Russian culture.
Maintaining order, family values, and mentoring youth are our specialties.
We care about
the church
Traditionally, each Cossack farmstead is assigned to a local church parish.
Cossacks assist with the church's farmwork and social work.
